Catastrophic Fund

Submitted by dennis on Sat, 01/01/2000 - 12:00am

A New Catastrophic Fund has been set up to help Mark Jones and others who may befall such a fate as in the story below. The shirts are of a Marine corps company that had a member's son who died. The proceeds from the shirts will go to help our "Catastrophic Fund".

Brothers and Sisters,

As most of you know, on 14 June 2008 my son Sgt Michael T. Washington was killed in action while serving with Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment in Afghanistan. While this has been the most terrible and trying period of our life, we have been held steady by the love and support of all of you in the Seattle Fire Department. During the ensuing days, weeks, and months, I am constantly reminded of the special bond that we share as Seattle Firefighters. From the calls to check on us, to the inquiries of Grace's and my well being, to the very kind and special personal words of encouragement, you all have been wonderful. For this Grace and I will be forever in your debt. Additionally, many have discovered an interest in the military in general and the Marine Corps in particular. I have had many of you ask about Golf 2/7 and what those young Marines are all about. It has been my honor and privilege to tell their story.

Included in this interest have been questions about getting Golf 2/7 t-shirts. We have a fellow firefighter in our midst who needs help navigating difficult times. I'm sure all of you are at least somewhat familiar with the situation of Firefighter Mark Jones. In an effort to help Mark with his current situation and to show your support of our troops I am selling Golf 2/7 T shirts and a limited number of hooded sweatshirts. The shirts are in black and fire dept blue and the logo of Golf 2/7 on the back. The shirts will cost 20.00 and the sweatshirts 40.00. ALL PROFITS WILL GO TO MARK JONES TO ASSIST HIM DURING THIS TRYING TIME. So buy a shirt, remember Sgt Michael T Washington and his fellow Marines who died on that terrible day, LCpl Layton Crass, Pfc Michael Patton and Pfc David Pietrek. Wear the shirts and tell the story of Michael and Mark, Honor one Brother and Help another out.

Thank you and Semper Fidelis
Mike and Grace Washington

We will be distributing the t-shirts and sweatshirts to all Battalion Headquarters as well as 27s, 5s and the FAC. Please make checks payable to myself. If you have any questions, please call me at 425-478-0729.

Thank you for all your support.
