(Seattle, WA) – Seattle Fire Fighters Union, along with their charity, Seattle’s Bravest, are sponsoring an event to remember those New York City Fire Fighters who lost their lives in the attacks of September 11, 2001, as well as provide assistance to those families who lost a loved one that day.
Fire Fighters from Seattle and throughout the region will walk 55 flights of stairs at Two Union Square beginning at 9:00am on Saturday, September 12, 2009. Many fire fighters will even walk the stairs twice to recognize the 110 floors of the World Trade Center. Participating fire fighters will wear a picture of each one of the NYC Fire Fighters lost that day.
Thus far over 200 fire fighters are participating in the event.
“As fire fighters we are acutely aware of the courage it took for our brothers and sisters to run in to that situation on 9/11 while thousands ran away,” said Dave Churchill, Vice President of the Seattle Fire Fighters Union and President of Seattle’s Bravest. “It’s important we stop to remember their sacrifice and do what we can to make sure those left behind are cared for.”
Melissa Woolsey, the Seattle Fire Fighter principally responsible for organizing the event said, “I’m honored to be part of an event to remember those brave fire fighters we lost on 9/11. I’m hopeful this will become an annual event and continue to grow so we can make sure they’re never forgotten and their families are cared for.”
Those wishing to make a donation can mail a check to Seattle’s Bravest Charity, 517 Second Avenue West, Seattle, WA, 98119.
